The log directories are managed by our application so that we only keep five days of logs. The profile for the generic account is not removed on reboot.

The exclusions define which directories can be written to, and thus do not fill the cache. The secret is down to the exclusions on the FBWF.

When the cache reaches 80% full you get a warning and at 85% full it reboots. You can change the size of the cache but even so you cannot set it too high. With the write filter enabled (FBWF) any changes to the system goes into the FBWF cache. We run our main application on Wyse C90LEW without any issues. Has anybody else seen this problem with Wyse Thin Clients before? How do I solve this? I removed it from the exclusion list and restarted. I have checked the FBWF and found an exclusion listed. I have been unable to prevent these machines from constantly rebooting. One throws this error within five minutes of restarting. Two of the machines throw this error and reboot about every 90 minutes or so. The File-Based Write Filter (FBWF) is enabled on all of our thin clients and has been since they were setup and deployed. I googled the error and only found a two-year old post on a Dell Wyse forum ( here) stating that the Write Filter was filling up and to make sure that the FBWF was enabled.

The system is running out of free memory and needs to restart. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. Please save all work in progress and log off. An error message with a countdown timer is displayed before the machine is forcibly rebooted. Three of these thin clients so far have decided to start filling up the RAM and forcing a reboot. All users are auto-logged in and some users can only run a small program that was installed while others must launch RDC and login to the terminal server. I have several Wyse Z90SW Thin Clients with Windows xp Embedded.
